News from the Winery: the grape – harvest

05/09/2013

Here at the Follador Winery we are about to enter our busiest, most exciting and favourite time of the Prosecco making year; the grape – harvest!

The grape – harvest takes place between the end of September and the start of October due to the ideal temperature and climate range in this timescale and sees the fulfillment of the years care, time and attention that has been lavished on the vines.

Before we start the harvest our oenologist goes round all our properties to check the quality of the grapes to make sure the time has come to harvest. The abundant rains of June this year did not affect the ripening of the grapes, in addition to which  July was quite a sultry month that along with the temperature range of August facilitated a good acidity in the grape, leading to a fine development of aroma and flavour.

Did you know that one of the main features of the Prosecco harvest in the  D.O.C.G. area is that the bunches of grapes are picked by hand with extreme care and patience to avoid any damage to the grapevine. It is this attention to detail that ensures Follador Prosecco’s elegant, distinctive and highly respected taste.
